30 years Experience in Tax Preparation in Cornwall & area !
Welcome to Sauve Tax Services (STS).
Established in January 1994, STS has been serving Cornwall and area for 30 years.
New Clients
STS does not prepare Corporate Taxes (T2), Trust Taxes (T3), Quebec Taxes (residents of QC) or filings for the IRS (USA) or taxes involving Farming Income, Business Income, Rental Income, Employment Expenses, Moving Expenses & some limited Foreign Income. We will also NOT take on new clients who have heavy investments (many T5s, T3s, T5008 or investment fees) or extensive medical expenses (more than 10 receipt – or clients with out of town appointments etc.). STS will gladly refer clients to other trusted insured tax preparers who do so. PLEASE CONTACT US about any of these before you come to our office or take the time to complete our forms!
Unique Tax Preparation Office
I offer a very unique service to Cornwall & Area. The reason for this is that I do not have an ‘office setup’. I work in a very small room at the back of the house that has no access from the outside. For this reason, I cannot and do not meet with clients. Most of the business between myself and my clients is done via telephone and/or email (and even via facebook). I am seldom available in person. I offer an incredible service and years of expertise and I can tell you that there are clients that I have been preparing taxes for 30 years that I have never actually met. So if you are someone who needs to sit down and explain all your details and slips to me (I’ve been doing this for 30 years – I know what they are), I am probably not the one for you. This is me being honest.
During tax season, mid-February to April 30th, my partner is here during the day to assist you when picking up or dropping off your paperwork during business hours. He can easily answer many of the questions you may have. You can also feel free to use our secure mail box (IT’S RED) and attached to the front of the house. From May 1st to mid-February, we do not have regular office hours but see clients by appointment only. Please see the CURRENT Business Hours displayed on this website (DO NOT RELY ON GOOGLE OR ANY OTHER WEBSITE WE MAY BE LISTED ON AS WE HAVE NO CONTROL OVER THOSE).
Your Taxes Explained
One of the things that STS prides itself on is explaining very clearly (in real “English”) your tax return to you each year to ensure that we work together to get a positive (or at least satisfying) outcome. I am astounded when I explain to someone why they owe money each year and how to rectify it when they say “every year I pay and no one ever took the time to tell me why or that it could be fixed”.
By the Book
STS also has the reputation of being “by the book”. Some tax preparers may bend the rules a bit or make claims on your tax return that are not necessarily ‘kosher’. Ultimately, if the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) decides not to accept a claim that your tax preparer made on your return, you will be responsible for any balance owing which will include interest and possibly penalties – some could be hefty. If I feel that what you want me to claim falls in a grey area or will more than likely not be accepted by CRA, I will strongly advise you not to make the claim. Should you wish me to make the claim anyway, I will do so but will make a note on your file. Should a reassessment of your file by CRA result in your claim being disallowed, STS cannot be held responsible.
Fully Insured
One of the dangers of paying an individual tax preparer to do your income tax return instead of using a firm, is that they could make a mistake (either in calculation, omission, human or a program error) that could ultimately cost you money. This is a genuine danger and something you should be very wary of when a tax preparer wants to do your taxes. So please BEWARE!!!! This also applies to your father-in-law, Uncle Bob or a friend. If they make an error and do not have insurance, you could end up footing a huge bill all in the name of saving a few dollars. Please note: that should an error (human or program) or omission result in a reassessment that causes a client to have a balance owing for a refund they have already received, STS will only be responsible for the interest portion and or penalties of the reassessment. The balance owing remains the responsibility of the tax payer.
STS also carries business insurance which means that while you are on our property on business, you are covered should you have an accident or be bitten by our family cat. This is also a grave concern. Should you fall down the stairs or be injured in the driveway slipping on ice of a tax preparer who does not carry business insurance, you are again on your own.
